there is no there there
P. Sauers & Co.-when something clicked in his mind:
Sovereign Metals, Ltd., 34 cases nails, screws and bolts.
There was something tantalizingly familiar about the firms name, also something deucedly familiar about the cargo it was shipping. Somewhere, sometime, he had seen both before, and not under There Is No There There favorable circumstances. It was like trying stuck on a truck
recall a vague picture or face from the past-frustrating because he was so close to recognition. Then he remembered. Well Ill be damned! he blurted, more loudly than he intended. Two other museum visitors gave him disapproving stares, but Montague didnt There Is No There There even notice. He marched into the office of the museum curator, a kent state massacre
butterball of a man he had come to know well from his frequent visits. Josh, Ive been looking at the Titanics cargo manifest. Would you happen to have any copies of the waybill numbers There Is No There There from the shipments, or know where I might obtain them? The curator seemed mildly offended that Montague would suggest kent state massacre
elsewhere. Derek, we have everything pertaining to that ship right here in this museum, including those waybill numbers, Im surprised you even asked. Lets see ... well, There Is No There There Id better help you find them myself. I think I know where they have been filed. ... In less than five minutes, he handed Montague las vegas review journal
thick, rather dusty folder that obviously hadnt been opened since its original deposit in an out-of-the-way filing cabinet. It took Montague There Is No There There a good two hours before he found the Sovereign Metals waybill for thirty-four cases of nails, screws and bolts. The first thing that struck his eye was the listed weight: tummy tubs
pounds. Not only was the poundage unusually high for assorted nails and so forth but There Is No There There Montague also noticed that in sifting through the other waybills he discovered that weights were not listed-only on the Sovereign shipment. The addressee at the port of destination was a J. Smyth, and Montagues eyes narrowed.
Then deangelo smith
noticed something else, significant to the practiced eyes of There Is No There There a former professional code breaker. He compared other waybill numbers with Sovereigns and found that the latter was the only one with ten digits instead of the usual four or at the most five. He copied down the numbers in a small kent state massacre
notebook he always There Is No There There carried with him and put the folder back in its cabinet.
He poked his head into the curators tiny office just before leaving. Many thanks, Josh. I put the file back.
Find what you were looking for?
Montague smiled enigmatically. Perhaps. Id be more certain if I knew There Is No There There what I was looking stuck on a truck
waved good-bye, the curator staring after him. I wonder what the hell he meant by that? he asked himself aloud. When Montague returned to his small London flat,, a one-bedroom affair whose principal features were an ancient piano and a huge well-stocked There Is No There There bookcase, he placed a call to Peter Groton. Peter, Derek here. kent state massacre
but I drew a complete blank. There was nothing in the cargo listings. Absolutely nothing. Groton chirped, Thats perfectly all right, Derek. Ive changed my mind about doing a book on the Titanic. While you were There Is No There There away, I decided theres been too much written already and nobody really cares anymore. Actually, Derek, churchill downs
going after a far more interesting subject. He paused dramatically. Get this ... who was Jack the Ripper? Inconsiderate whelp of a journalist, Montague thought, but he didnt voice this There Is No There There opinion because he was relieved to have Groton off his back. He even felt grateful, inasmuch as Peter had unwittingly steered him tummy tubs
a doorway that might hide a fascinating mystery. A topic of eternal interest, he agreed. I wish you luck with the project. Ive got a There Is No There There retired Scotland Yard serg.
